Mini-Split Check

Disclosure: Manufacturer links on this site are plain links, not affiliate links yet. If that changes we may earn a commission at no cost to you, and this notice will say so. We have not tested or installed any product; ratings come from ENERGY STAR certification data, and cost figures are estimates. Not an endorsement by EPA or ENERGY STAR. Learn more.

How we calculate

  1. Ratings (SEER2, EER2, HSPF2, capacities at 47/17/5°F, COP at 5°F, cold-climate flag, refrigerant, AHRI reference) come only from the ENERGY STAR Certified Mini-Split Heat Pumps dataset via its public API, retrieved 2026-10-17. Each row links its ENERGY STAR record.
  2. License: the dataset's metadata names the EPA Data License: EPA data is by default in the public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105). We do not use the ENERGY STAR mark, and EPA does not endorse this site.
  3. Grouping: ratings belong to an indoor + outdoor pairing. Unit pages group pairings by outdoor model. Exact duplicate pairings are shown once. ACIQ and 1HVAC brand listings (same partner) are grouped as ACiQ.
  4. Capacity classes by rated cooling capacity: 9k (<10,500), 12k (10,500–14,999), 18k (15,000–20,999), 24k (21,000–26,999), 36k (33,000–38,999) BTU/h.
  5. % capacity at 5°F = heating capacity at 5°F ÷ at 47°F.
  6. Cost estimates: kWh = capacity × full-load hours ÷ (SEER2 or HSPF2 × 1,000), × EIA residential rate (July 2026 (preliminary), EIA). Hours are user inputs or a "per 1,000 hours" yardstick; this ignores part-load behavior, defrost and backup heat, so treat it as a comparison tool, not a bill forecast.
